Most of you have by now heard of the closing of Chicky's Fine Diner. For me personally, it was devestating news, although I realize the intense flood of struggle that both Blake and Chicky have weathered for some time now. These beautiful people are my dearest friends, and I hurt most for them. They created a place that was SO MUCH MORE than a mere restaurant, and so much more than a music venue. I've been known to say that, "If I died and went to Heaven, I'd just notice more of my loved ones around as I was handed the daily specials sheet at Chickys." I send ALL of my love, and the MOST warm thoughts and wishes to my dearest friends as they begin the next chapter of their book of life. To Blake and Chicky-I am here for you, always will be-you are both TREASURES in my book of life! You are my HEROES!!
Now...(needed a kleenex for a minute...) Here is what Chicky's means to me. I first walked through the door at Chicky's in April of 2005. I'd heard the food was good, and decided to try it for lunch. I was in the midst of the painful breakup of a marriage, and attempting to get back to my music after what seemed like an Alcatraz-like lockdown of my creativity for too many years. I had made up some business cards, but hadn't mustered the confidence to hand any out. I sat down at the bar that lunchtime, and Chicky came over and introduced himself and we started to talk. After a few minutes of easy chat, I got the gumption to give him a card and ask him if he'd ever thought about having a singer-songwriter do a Sunday brunch. He graciously took the card and said they were about to start expanding their music offerings, and that he'd think about it and talk to his partner, Blake. To my eternal bliss, he gave me a phone call a few days later and gave me my first gig since 1990. (There's a whole other story to that gig that I'll save for another time...) That first gig turned into a regular gig @ Chicky's virtually every month from that time til their closing. Let me state it simply- Chicky and Blake gave me the support, the friendship, and the opportunity to come back to life. THAT is a gift beyond earthly measure, and I bow in homage to them for it! (where the HELL is that kleenex box!>...)
I could write for hours about that amazing place and the many stories and remembrances I have, but I will meter those thoughts over time. For all of you who experienced Chicky's Fine Diner, and "got it", Wasn't that a FREAKING TRIP?! For those of you who got a soggy fry now and then, and can't handle it, what the hell are you still reading this for....
God Bless You Chicky Stoltz and Blake Smithson!!!

If you are reading this, then you've found the new home for David Delacroix, delacroixville.com. I have had to set up a new host and domain because EASYSPACE.COM has hijacked my daviddelacroix.com domain!! They say that the domain hosting lapsed, but it had another year til it needed renewal, and since easyspace appears to be run by an underground bunch of Anglo-robots, there is no recourse that would get me back my domain without shelling out 130 British pounds!!! It's enough to make me smash my Oasis CDs! (Wait a minute-I don't HAVE any Oasis CDs...thank GoD!) Enough ranting about cyber-stupidity....
There is A LOT going on these days in delacroixville!!! Blake and I have begun recording the album, and have 6 basic tracks in the can. Joe Brien is onboard to do his sweet engineering magic when we get to that! The Bourbonaires are getting ready to go into the studio for the four tracks that we're doing together. And if THAT's not enough to keep my busy, I have the amazing priviledge of opening for Bill Morrissey this coming Thursday, Have another Clean Plate Dinner Club on the 16th of April with my dear friend, John Clark, and the Bourbonaires are doing our first headliner gig on May 17th! So, needless to say, there is no boredom in Delacroixville!!!
Once we get a couple mixes finished, I'll post some of the recording for you to check out. And, please sign into the guest book so I can keep in touch on gigs and the CD release party etc etc.
I hope you are all enjoying the Spring weather (FINALLY!) and I look forward to seeing you soon!
Pax,
David

Wow! The Bourbonaires debut at Chicky's Fine Diner last Saturday night was an absolute BLAST! The house was packed to the rafters and both The Bourbonaires and Cattle Call had a great time! Thanks go out to each and every friend who came ut for the show. Special thanks to Cattle Call for sharing the stage, and especially to Tim Emery (Guitar and Vocals for Cattle Call) for taking care of us at the soundboard! So many good comments on the gig from old and new friends; it was a banner night for all of us in the band!
We'll be doing another set on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Chicky's, with the Tone Kings sharing the stage, so come out and check out the band. There were a lot of folks who couldn't get into the show on Saturday, so make sure you call in a reservation!
I'm on the verge of starting the recording of my first solo album, Joy Valley Road. It's a blessing and a curse, because I always drag feet on arrangements. My cat, Tyson, is getting sick of hearing the same songs over and over again...
Here's an interesting sidenote to Saturday's gig. My son, Christian met Bourbonaires bassist John Clark's son, Henry, along with Henry's friend, Curran, at the gig. They look to be forming a Metal band called The Great North! Hmmmm..I guess that mkes me a first generation musical influence. (Where the hell did I put Keith Richard's phone number....)
As always, thank you for your support, and keep coming out to the shows. They wouldn't be the same without you!
